Troop 339 Eagle Standards Δ
The following list will outline Troop 339 standards for this project. Be sure to get the appropriate approvals before you start any work on your project. IMPORTANT NOTE: start tracking every minute you or anyone else spends working on this project. Research, planning and any meetings are all times spent that you need to track.- Identify your potential project and be sure it clearly benefits some organization other than Scouting. Re-Read the requirement above to be sure.
- Complete the "Project Description" section of the Workbook and receive Scoutmaster approval as well as the approval the organization you are completing the project for. Be sure to get any needed signatures.
- Complete the "Project Details" section of the Workbook. This is the planning stage. You need to be very detailed and organized. Be sure to include before photos (if appropriate). Remember this is a LEADERSHIP Service Project. YOU are the one planning everything. Plan your project to completion. Think this way... if I handed your workbook to the youngest scout in the troop, could they complete the project without you present? Is everything (YES EVERYTHING) they need to know already detailed in your plan? If you can answer 'YES,' then move on!
- Open the Troop Evaluation Form (or NEW District Evaluation Form). This is the same evaluation form all 3 of you review panels will use and was adapted from the District form. If you have completed all the items and can answer all the questions you are ready. If you can't answer all the questions, work on your project details until you can.
- You will now present your project to 3 separate
panels to gain approval. The first two will evaluate your
plan, provide advice and recommendations and approve you
for the next level, only if you are ready. You will be
given CLEAR direction on what steps, if any, YOU need to
take to succeed. Be sure to get the signatures of each
board on your appropriate workbook page. The review
boards are:
- Troop 339 Scoutmasters
- Troop 339 Committee Members
- District Advancement Committee (Only scheduled for the 1st Thursday of every month ,check our calendar for cutoff dates). You need to call and make the appointment once you pass the Scoutmaster Review Board. You can get the contact information from the Scoutmaster at that time
- Once you have the District Approval, Execute your plan. Complete "Carrying Out Your Project." Be sure to track and document all the progress of your project. Note changes to your plan. Take pictures as necessary. REMEMBER, you will be asked questions about your project in your final Eagle Scout Board of Review and this workbook is part of your final paperwork to gain Eagle Rank Approval.
- When the project is finished, complete your workbook and gain the final approval signatures from the Scoutmaster and the Benefiting Organization. Your Done!
Eagle Scout Leadership Service Projects Δ
First -- The steps to Eagle are listed on National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Website. Start your journey by going to this site and review an overview on what you will be doing. The Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, found on the above site, outlines the general steps to complete your service project. Download an editable version of this Workbook. Because you will be making many changes to your project, you will want to work with a digital copy. Handwritten projects do not make the right impression of organization & neatness to the District Review Board.Second -- Review the EAGLE District Guide for EAGLE PROJECTS. This document was published to help you with you project by the people that will make the final Review of your project for approval. These individuals will also be the ones giving your final Eagle Scout Board of Review. It benefits you to make a good impression!
The Eagle Project Requirement Δ
The "Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project" Workbook clearly defines what you must do:Important Aspects to note:As stated in the Boy Scout Handbook: While a Life Scout, plan, develop, and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to your religious institution, school, or your community. (The project should benefit an organization other than the BSA.) The project plan must be approved by the organization benefiting from the effort, your unit leader (Scoutmaster, Varsity Scout Coach, Venturing crew Advisor), unit committee, and by the council or district advancement committee before you start. You must use this Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook, No. 18-927D, in meeting this requirement.
- Develop, plan & GIVE LEADERSHIP, don't forget the leadership part!
- Service must be to some organization other than Scouts. Does it specifically benefit a religious org, school or community?
- Finally notice the specific approvals needed! Our standards listed below and the Eagle District Pamphlet will help you here!
Eagle District Project Review Boards Δ
This will be a formal presentation of your project to a District Level Panel of Three (3) Adult Scouters from around the district. They are checking to see if you meet the requirement above and have appropriately planned your project. At this board I recommend you have a copy of you project for all three individuals to review. Your Original Packet with all appropriate signatures will need to be present.Best Approach - be ready to give a thorough presentation of your project from start to finish. Cover all items, your methods, safety, everything. Have separate notes (cards) and practice this presentation. Expect to be interrupted at times, respectfully answer their questions, then get right back to your presentation where you left off. Approaching this board with confidence shows them you know what you are doing and have thought through everything. Remember, you do know more about this project than anyone in the room. They just started reviewing it when you handed it to them!
